Notes on a Garden
About
This print grew out of a series of drawings I made in the early spring of 2025. I decided that I was no longer going to make prints using photographs. I had become frustrated by having to fight the niggling thought that my print didn’t look like the photograph.
I have found the process of using my drawings as a starting point very freeing. It has enabled me to focus on the artwork itself—giving me the freedom to change colours and add details for the rhythm and balance of the whole piece.
This is the first time I have printed an image right to the edge of the paper. I had seen prints by artist, Jemma Gunning, at Ulverston Printfest that did this and wanted to try it myself. I like the suggestion that the image continues beyond the edge of the paper; what I’ve captured is a snapshot of a much bigger world and what printmaker doesn’t love celebrating the deckled edge of the paper!
